Resident Scholar
The Resident Scholar position at the Colorado State University Sigma Phi Epsilon chapter exists to promote academic excellence and provide support and resources for undergraduate SigEp members. The position term is one academic year and open to graduate students of all disciplines. Resident Scholars are required to live in the Chapter Facility at 121 E Lake Street in Fort Collins, adjacent to the main Colorado State University campus.
Position Description
The Resident Scholar is an advisor that serves as an academic mentor and motivator for the Sigma Phi Epsilon chapter members at Colorado State University. This includes proactively creating academic programs and providing academic resources to chapter members. Throughout the year, the Resident Scholar works with the chapter as a whole and with members on an individual basis, as needed.
Qualifications / Preferences
- Enrollment in a graduate program at Colorado State University required (all majors/programs welcome)
- Strong desire to mentor young adults in collegiate academics and college life required
- Previous experience mentoring, tutoring, or coaching preferred but not required
- Greek alumnus preferred but not required
Resident Scholar Term
August – May (one academic year)
- Please Note: Housing / Resident Scholar Suite will be available for move-in one week before Fall classes begin. If you need housing in Fort Collins earlier than one week before Fall classes, it will be your responsibility.

- Resident Scholar Suite at 121 E Lake Street: one bedroom, private living room, private bathroom, and use of attached chapter office.
- Rent, Utilities (including basic cable and broadband internet), and 10 prepared meals per week included
Resident Scholar Position Expectations
- Clearly set scholarship/academic expectations for chapter at the beginning of each semester
- Maintain a productive relationship with the chapter membership and undergraduate executive board
- Be readily available to chapter members for academic advice, counsel, and mentoring
- Regular attendance at weekly chapter meetings (every Monday during semester from 5:30pm to 7:30pm)
- Regular attendance at monthly Alumni & Volunteer Committee meetings
- No fewer than four scheduled/posted office hours per week at Chapter House to assist chapter members with academics
- Innovative programming presented and/or literature distributed to the chapter (e.g., stress management, test taking tips, etc.)
Performance Assessment Criteria
- Visible/available to chapter members
- Attends required meetings
- Exemplary academic role model
- Advises chapter leadership on scholarship
- Conducts mid-semester grade review with under-performing members
